What is subletting: Subletting happens when an existing tenant lets all or part of their home to someone else who is known as the subtenant. The subtenant has a tenancy for all or part of the property which is let to them and they have exclusive use of that accommodation.

This includes tenants who move out of their property leaving other family members living in the property.

You may be committing a criminal offence if you sublet your home without our permission or by going against what it says in your tenancy agreement.

Unlawful subletting of social housing is a serious matter because as well as the risk of being prosecuted under criminal law, you could also lose your home.
